Scholarships Are Currently Available!

Opticians play a crucial role in society by helping people see the world clearly. They work with eye doctors to create and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions. Opticians are known for their friendly and helpful nature, always ready to assist customers in choosing the perfect eyewear that suits their style and needs. They are detail-oriented, compassionate, and excellent communicators. By ensuring that everyone has access to clear vision, opticians make a significant impact on the quality of life for countless individuals.

Salary Range


  • $48,000 – $62,000/ year

Education & Timeframe


  • Start Your Journey: Associate’s Degree in Opticianry or related field (Note: A Bachelor’s Degree is not typically required for opticians) Duration: ~2 years
  • Advance Your Expertise: Certification in Opticianry (through organizations such as the American Board of Opticianry) Duration: Varies, typically a few months to a year
  • Gain Experience: Internships or work experience in optical clinics, vision care centers, or retail eyewear stores. Stay current with optical technologies, lens crafting techniques, and patient care practices.

Scholarship Opportunities


  • The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Nevada Health Workforce Pipeline Grant (NHWPG) will focus on providing funding opportunities that are intended to disseminate financial relief and incentivize individuals to pursue careers in a variety of health-related fields. The expected outcome for these funds is to support and expand the opportunity to increase the number of qualified and competent professionals in the health workforce to improve the overall health of our communities.
