Tribal Workforce
Nevada Native American Tribes reside in various location from the inner cities to rural remote areas throughout the state. Each Tribe maintains a diverse community workforce that includes Administration, Law Enforcement, Parks and Recreation, Education, Healthcare, and more. These positions are filled by local Tribal members, Tribal members from other regions, and Nevada residents from neighboring counties and communities.
As with any workforce, Tribes navigate challenges such as turnover, qualification requirements, and geographic barriers when filling positions. Specialty roles in the healthcare field are particularly difficult to staff due to the broader healthcare workforce shortages across Nevada.

Nevada Department of Native American Affairs
The Nevada Department of Native American Affairs (DNAA) is a state agency that works to support, uplift, and advocate for Native American Tribes and communities across Nevada. It acts as the bridge between Tribal Nations and the State of Nevada, making sure Tribal voices, needs, and concerns are heard and respected.
The department focuses on key areas that impact daily life — including education, employment, health, community development, and cultural preservation. DNAA’s team, along with its Governor‑appointed Native American Commissioners, brings decades of experience in Tribal and state government, working together to promote Tribal sovereignty and improve access to resources and programs.

Native American Fee Waiver
The University of Nevada, Reno offers a Native American Fee Waiver that covers certain mandatory registration fees for eligible Native American students. To qualify, a student must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized Tribe or a certified descendant, and must also meet Nevada residency and university admission requirements. Students must first apply and be accepted to UNR before submitting their Tribal documentation. The waiver is provided through the Nevada Board of Regents and applies to registration, laboratory, and other mandatory fees for eligible students. Statewide Nevada Native American Community and Economic Development Strategy Workshop
